As digital content on the internet continues to grow, it is increasingly difficult to differentiate between creators with a similar or the same name. A unique identifier, such as an ORCID iD, enables you to claim your digital scholarship and receive attribution for your works and activities.

Publishers and funders may require you to provide an iD when you submit a manuscript or a grant proposal, respectively. Digital repositories may request an iD with deposit of data and publications for preservation and access. Whatever the purpose, connecting your works through your iD is smart research practice and may make your workflows more efficient and less time consuming in the future.
