You can "Place Hold" on items in our Online Catalog to do two things:

  1. If it's an item we have at MSU in one our libraries, you can have the book transported between our libraries or taken from the stacks for you to pick-up at your MSU library of choice
  2. Because we share our library catalog with other libraries in Mississippi, not all of the books available to you are located in our MSU Library on campus. If you find a book that you'd like to check out that's at another library like EMCC or MUW (see image below), you can click "Place Hold," and the book you've requested will be sent to MSU Libraries for you to borrow.

The time is takes to fulfill these requests varies. If you're requesting an item that's at MSU Libraries, you'll be notified that your material is ready for pick-up in 24 hours. If it's something at one of our Mississippi Library Partnership libraries, it can take a couple days to just over a week, depending on book availability and our courier schedule. 

How to place a hold:

When you click Place Hold, you will be prompted to log in to your account with your MSU netID and password if you haven't already.  If you have logged in, you will be asked which library you'd like to retrieve the item from, and once the item arrives, you will be notified via email.

If you change your mind and want to cancel the hold, simply log in to your Library Account and remove the hold.  The staff in Access Services (662-325-7668) is also available to answer any questions you might have about your hold status.
